Tesla plans to build battery energy storage factory in India
Oct 10, 2023Tesla has submitted a proposal to the Indian government to establish a Powerwall battery energy storage factory in India.
American electric car and battery manufacturer Tesla hopes to set up a battery energy storage factory in India and has submitted a proposal to the Indian government on this matter, which mainly produces the series of Powerwall batteries and sells battery energy storage systems primarily to residential and industrial customers.
According to Reuters, Tesla recently proposed a plan to support India's expansion of battery energy storage capacity with Powerwall - a system used to store power from solar panels or the grid for use at night or during power outages. The company is eager to develop residential and industrial customers for its battery storage systems.
Tesla has sought several incentives to set up a battery storage factory in India. But Indian officials declined to offer such incentives, but proposed creating a fair business model by providing subsidies to customers who buy Tesla products, Reuters reported.
Tesla recently demonstrated its new hybrid battery Powerwall 3 at the US Solar Photovoltaic and Energy Storage Exhibition (RE+). The battery can provide homeowners with 11.5 kilowatts of continuous operating power and takes only 30 to 40 minutes to install. It also comes with an integrated inverter, simplifying installation. This is a hybrid system that is suitable for new solar installations, but is not suitable for homes with existing rooftop solar systems.
